The project's history
The project of the Shipyard River Innovation takes place around the basin of Biestebroeck, the southern zone of the Brussels Canal. The Canal has long nourished the imagination of the populations living in the vicinity.The river and maritime past of Brussels seems easy to remobilize and to be the ideal lever for the redeployment of activities based on social cohesion and the meeting of populations.Investing the canal as a public, nautical and recreational space, next to the commercial and economic functions that we know is the goal of the Shipyard River Innovation.Supported by Sémaphore asbl, Atelier marin asbl, Zinneke asbl, du Vent et des Voiles asbl and Dhafe asbl, the CIF (Chantier d'innovation fluviale) was born in 2015.Within the framework of the ERDF fund 2007-2013, the Shipyard has acquired all the necessary infrastructure for the creation of a carpentry and joinery workshop for the river.
The projects of the river yard
In this workshop located at the COOP, participatory projects related to the wood industry are now being developed. All of them have as common points :- To make the public meet around the construction and repair of boats and through our various activities (workshops, animations, training courses, events, ...);- Exchange skills, transmit knowledge and know-how;- To promote the activities of navigation and leisure on the Brussels canal.

Eu boat
EU Boat is a European project that brings together actors from 4 shipyards: Albaola (Pasai San Pedro, Basque Country), Les Chantiers Tramasset (Le tourne, France), Meitheal Mara (Cork, Ireland), Le Chantier d'Innovation Fluviale (Anderlecht, Belgium). This project was financed within the framework of the European program Eramus+ Lifelong learning Program which is dedicated to education and professional training.During 2 years, 4 European meetings took place within these 4 shipyards in order to work and exchange on the themes of employment, training and professional integration.These transversal themes are addressed through the different activities carried out in our 4 shipyards: the ship/river carpentry workshops, the training centers for navigation and wood trades, through animations and socio-cultural events for the awareness and the conservation of the local boat heritage.The EU Boat project has resulted in the production of documents and tools for the sustainability and recognition of local associations and their actions.
