School is important to us at COOP.

The canal districts, and Cureghem in particular, have had a remarkable concentration of schools and technical and vocational training centers for a century. In the development of the knowledge society, this concentration is certainly a lever for the future progress of the canal districts. But the school in the canal districts has also been, for more than a century, the first place of and socialization for young people from these neighborhoods and from migrations from the four corners of the the world. The educational task is certainly difficult in these neighborhoods where the social and cultural conditions and the economic possibilities of the communities are not the most favorable. We hope that the COOP will allow us to support the pedagogical teams in the noble profession of teaching young people and also to continue the research for a pedagogy of democracy, freedom and equality.
